Arielle Freedberg, Psy.D. , Staff Psychologist, graduated magna cum laude from Barnard College and earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of California, Santa Barbara's Counseling Services, and her post-doctoral fellowship in college mental health at Sarah Lawrence College Health Services.

Dr. Freedberg has received intensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) under the direction of Lata McGinn, Ph.D., and has completed advanced training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. She is also trained in Interpersonal Psychotherapy and other empirically supported brief therapy models. She has clinical experience in the treatment of mood, anxiety, and personality disorders, and the exploration of sexual identity and relationship issues. Her areas of research interest include resilience, posttraumatic growth, and identity conflict and resolution.

Samantha Monk, Ph.D. , Staff Psychologist, earned her doctorate in clinical and school psychology at Hofstra University after receiving her MA in psychology from New York University and BA in psychology from the University of Colorado. Dr. Monk completed her postdoctoral fellowship at CBT/DBT Associates. Prior to joining CBT/DBT Associates, Dr. Monk completed a pre-doctoral clinical psychology internship at the Veterans Affairs Hudson Valley Healthcare System and a pre-doctoral school psychology internship in the Great Neck, NY school district. Dr. Monk has extensive training and experience in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and has completed intensive  training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

Dr. Monk provides individual cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical therapy (DBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and works with adults, adolescents and children. As a trained CBT, DBT and ACT therapist, Dr. Monk integrates mindfulness and acceptance with traditional cognitive behavior therapy. Her clinical expertise focuses on a wide range of problems, including mood and anxiety disorders in adults and children, borderline personality disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, and testing/performance anxiety.

Jason Weingarten, Psy.D., Postdoctoral Fellow, earned his doctorate in clinical psychology at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Yeshiva University. He received his B.A. from the Pennsylvania State University, graduating with honors. Dr. Weingarten completed his pre-doctoral internship in clinical psychology at the Manhattan VA hospital where he received extensive training in individual and group therapy, with a focus on therapy with older adults and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. He has intensive training in empirically supported treatments for trauma including prolonged exposure, virtual reality, and the STAIR (Skills-Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation) protocol for childhood trauma. Prior to internship, Dr. Weingarten trained at CBT/DBT Associates under the direction of Dr. Napolitano, and served as both an individual CBT and DBT therapist and DBT skills group co-leader. Previously, he treated adolescents on an inpatient unit at Four Winds Hospital and spent two years at SUNY Purchase’s College Counseling Center working with young adults. Dr. Weingarten has expertise in the treatment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and personality disorders. As part of his graduate training at Ferkauf, Jason completed a year-long intensive course in CBT for anxiety and depression under the direction of Dr. Lata McGinn. As part of this practicum, Jason provided two years of ongoing supervised treatment to adult clients within the CBT division of the Parnes Clinic. Jason’s Doctoral dissertation explored the process of psychological resilience and the factors that contribute to overall well-being following traumatic events, with a focus on Holocaust survivors.

Jason provides individual CBT and DBT therapy and leads DBT skills-training groups.

Jolie Weingeroff, PhD, Post-Doctoral Fellow, earned her doctorate in clinical psychology at Boston University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she obtained extensive training in cognitive behavior therapy and other empirically-supported interventions for adults across the full spectrum of psychiatric difficulties. While at Montefiore, Dr. Weingeroff was trained and supervised by Dr. Alec Miler in DBT. She was also an individual DBT therapist and member of the Adolescent Depression and Suicide Program’s Comprehensive DBT treatment team. Prior to internship, Dr. Weingeroff trained at McLean Hospital’s Borderline Center, under the direction of Dr. John Gunderson, where she co-led a DBT skills group and other group therapies for individuals with borderline personality disorder. During her training at Boston University’s Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders and Eating Disorders Program, Dr. Weingeroff obtained extensive experience and specialized training in the assessment and treatment of eating disorders and anxiety.

Dr. Weingeroff has presented her research on emotion regulation, obesity, and the co-occurrence of borderline personality disorder and eating disorder symptoms at the Academy for Eating Disorders International Conference on Eating Disorders, the World Congress for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and the American Psychiatric Association Annual Meeting.

Dr. Weingeroff provides individual CBT, CBT-E, and DBT to adults and adolescents. She also co-leads DBT groups and leads CBT groups in our Eating and Weight Disorders Program.

Rachel Hershenberg, M.A., Psychology Extern, graduated Summa CumLaude from Emory University with a B.A. in Psychology. She earned her M.A atStony Brook University, where she is currently working on her dissertation as a fifth-year clinical psychologyPh.D. candidate. Rachel completed intensiveclinical coursework and practicum using cognitive behavioral approaches in thetreatment of mood and anxiety disorders. Additionally, within a CBT framework,Rachel is also trained to integrate emotion-focused, interpersonal, and acceptance-basedapproaches into assessment and treatment planning. Rachel workedfor 3 years as a staff therapist at the KrasnerPsychological Center and the Anxiety Disorder Clinic, which serve members ofthe greater Stony Brook community varying in ages, presenting problems, andlevel of severity. This is her second year on staff at CBT DBTAssociates where she sees individual CBT and DBT clients and co-leads DBTskills groups. Rachel also works under Joanne Davila, Ph.D. in the RelationshipDevelopment Center at Stony Brook University as a Clinical Interviewer andProject Coordinator. Her research examines emotion regulation and interpersonalfunctioning across phases of development, especially 1) in the context ofdepression and 2) with regard to positive emotion regulation strategies and engagementin positive relationship processes. Rachel currently serves as the studentmember of APA Division 12’s Committee on Science and Practice, in which she isinvolved in issues related to training in evidence-based practice anddelineating methods to help bridge the gap between researchers and clinicians(e.g., increased use of the clinic as a source of data collection).

Despina Hadjikyriacou, M.A., Psychology Extern, graduated Summa Cum Laude from Hofstra University with a B.A. in psychology and sociology as a Fullbright Scholar. She earned an M.A. in clinical psychology at Fordham University, where she is currently a doctoral candidate. Her dissertation investigates the effects of mindfulness-based meditation on the functioning of insomnia patients. Prior to attending Fordham, Despina obtained a M.A. in clinical psychology from Columbia University where she conducted research on the etiology and treatment of eating disorders and on emotion regulation. Despina has worked as a staff therapist at the Counseling Center of Brooklyn College treating adults and adolescents with a wide range of clinical problems. She also has co-led therapy groups at the Addiction Institute, St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital.  Despina has received intensive training the neuropsychological assessment of children and older adults at the Neurological Institute of New York and JFK Medical Center.

Natalie Klapper, Research Assistant, is currently pursuing her B.A. in Psychology at Barnard College, Columbia University. She has conducted research in the field of Psychology and Law about procedural fairness, and plans to continue that research in the fall. Natalie is on the Furman Counseling Center Committee at Barnard College and volunteers at Weill Cornell Medical College in the Program for Anxiety and Traumatic Stress Studies. She has previously interned at the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services, Ivy Prep Learning Center, and the Supreme Court of Westchester County for the Honorable Kathy Davidson and the Honorable Joan Lefkowitz.

Nikita Shah, Clinical Intake Coordinator, graduated from New York University with a B.A. in psychology and a concentration in pre-medicine. She has conducted research in the field of Social Psychology at New York University’s Yaacov Trope Lab. She has also served as a research assistant in Integrative Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center and in Emergency Medicine at North Shore University Hospital. Nikita has previously volunteered with the Reach Out and Read program at Bellevue Hospital.
