Kristen Roman, Psy.D. | Director of the Young Adult Program

Kristen Roman, Psy.D.Kristen Roman earned her Psy.D in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers University Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. Prior to attending Rutgers, Dr. Roman graduated from Emory University with a B.A. in Psychology. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at CBT/DBT Associates. Dr. Roman completed her pre-doctoral clinical internship at UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services, where she delivered individual cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students and co-led CBT groups for eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance use, and ADHD. During her internship, she also gave presentations on prevention of suicide and sexual assault and developed skills in crisis intervention.

Prior to Dr. Roman’s internship training, she worked at the Rutgers University Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Clinic under the mentorship of Dr. Shireen Rizvi. At Rutgers, she trained as an individual DBT therapist, DBT skills trainer, and researcher for four years, serving a population of adults with Borderline Personality Disorder and undergraduate students with emotion regulation difficulties. Dr. Roman’s training in CBT more broadly includes externships at the Institute for Behavior Therapy in New York and the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety. At the University of Pennsylvania, she received specialized training in exposure therapy for trauma and anxiety disorders (OCD, Social Phobia, Panic Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Specific Phobias), including Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD and Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD. Dr. Roman has additional expertise in CBT for eating disorders from her role as a therapist in a Rutgers University study on guided self-help CBT for eating disorders. Dr. Roman is a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT).
