William Benson, Psy.D. | Staff Psychologist
William Benson earned his doctorate in clinical psychology at Rutgers University Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. He graduated from Tulane University with a B.S. in psychology summa cum laude with departmental honors.
Dr. Benson completed his pre-doctoral internship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where he specialized in providing evidence-based cognitive-behavioral interventions for children, adolescents, and young adults with a variety of clinical concerns in outpatient, emergency department, and inpatient settings. During this internship, he also served as Clinical Instructor of Pediatrics for The Ohio State University. Dr. Benson completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Child Study Center at NYU Langone Health, where he also served as Clinical Instructor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
In addition to extensive training in cognitive-behavioral therapy for children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of clinical diagnoses and concerns, Dr. Benson received specialized training in graduate school in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder, tics and Tourette’s disorder, trichotillomania, ADHD and disruptive behavior in children and adolescents, and selective mutism and social anxiety in children. During his postdoctoral fellowship, he received additional specialized training in treating adult ADHD as well as the use of organizational skills, time management, planning, and motivational interventions for children, adolescents, and adults with ADHD and executive functioning challenges, and coordinated the selective mutism intensive treatment services at the Child Study Center.
Dr. Benson has extensive experience in treating children, adolescents, and adults with emotion regulation difficulties, anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, disruptive behavior, executive functioning difficulties, tics, Tourette’s, hair-pulling and other body-focused repetitive behaviors, and selective mutism. He is a member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT) and the Society of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (Division 53 of the American Psychological Association).
Dr. Benson is licensed to practice in both New York and New Jersey.
